All-On-X Dental Implants in Gilbert & Phoenix

All-On-X dental implants are an innovation in dental implant surgery that allows us to replace an entire arch of upper or lower teeth supported by four to six implants placed in the jawbone. All-On-X implants offer a permanent solution for missing teeth involving less surgery. The All-On-X solution benefits our patients with jawbone loss as an alternative to bone grafting.

Advantages of All-On-X Dental Implants

For patients who need to replace all of the teeth in their upper or lower jaw, the advantages of All-On-X implants are unmistakable:

  • There is no need for bone grafting. Our surgeons carefully select areas of the jawbone that are robust and stable enough to support the replacement teeth without grafting.
  • The procedure is less invasive. Fewer implants mean less surgery, less bleeding, and less chance of complications.
  • Recovery time is reduced. With no bone grafts and fewer incisions, patients recover faster from All-On-X surgery.
  • All-On-X is less expensive. Because no bone grafts are needed and fewer implants (for most patients, we use only four), All-On-X implants are surprisingly affordable.
  • The dental implants are secure and stable. All-On-X dental implants are far more stable than dentures, which tend to shift and slip.
  • We can provide immediate restorations. While your permanent restorations are being fabricated, we can provide temporary teeth on the day of surgery, so you are never without a complete set of teeth.
  • All-On-X dental implants look like your natural teeth. No other dental restorations look, function, or feel as natural as All-On-X.

The All-On-X Dental Implant Procedure

At your initial consultation, we will evaluate your oral health, take X-rays and digital images, review your medical history, and determine whether All-On-X implants are appropriate for you. We then develop a treatment plan, including how many implants are required to support your dental prosthetic and their optimal positions.

On the day of surgery, your oral surgeon will administer a local anesthetic and IV sedation. Placement of the implants takes 1-3 hours, depending on how many implants are needed and where they are located. Temporary prosthetic teeth are attached to the implants so that you have fully functional teeth while the implants fuse with the jawbone over the next few months.

Once the titanium implants have fully fused with the jawbone, the temporary prosthetic is removed, and your permanent replacement teeth are attached. The permanent teeth are custom-crafted to look and feel as close as possible to your natural teeth. For many of our patients, they last a lifetime.

All-On-X Dental Implants FAQ

How many implants are used for All-On-X dental implants?

It depends on how many implants are needed and how much healthy jawbone is available. To minimize surgical trauma, our surgeons try to use four implants whenever possible, although as many as six may be required.

Am I a candidate for All-On-X implants?

Most healthy adults with sufficient jawbone mass to support at least four dental implants are potential candidates for All-On-X. This procedure often allows patients who would otherwise require bone grafts to avoid this additional step. However, individuals with uncontrolled diabetes, clotting disorders, or certain autoimmune issues may not be suitable candidates.

How long do All-On-X implants last?

The titanium implants in the jawbone should last a lifetime. For most people, the restorations (the arch of replacement teeth) last 30 years or more. To prolong the life of your dental implant restorations, avoid smoking, using your replacement teeth as tools, and chewing on ice or other hard objects. Good oral hygiene and regular dental checkups are also essential.

Do I need to take time off work for All-On-X surgery?

We recommend taking 2-3 days off work following surgery to rest and recover. You will be on a soft food diet and need to stay hydrated. Get plenty of sleep and avoid doing anything strenuous to prevent excessive bleeding.

What is recovery like after All-On-X surgery?

Following all-on-X surgery, you can expect some swelling and mild to moderate pain for the first few days. This discomfort typically peaks on day three and then rapidly diminishes. Over-the-counter pain relievers can help manage the pain, and we can prescribe a stronger, non-narcotic medication if necessary. Applying ice packs to the cheeks for the first two days can also help reduce swelling. In general, you should feel back to your normal self within a week.

Are there any risks with All-On-X dental implants?

All surgeries carry some risk of complications, including infection and nerve damage. However, with All-On-X surgery, these risks are minimal, particularly when one of our experienced oral surgeons performs the procedure.

Will my dental insurance pay for All-On-X implants?

It depends on the insurance carrier and the type of coverage you have. Some aspects of the procedure, such as the surgery, may be covered, while the dental prosthetic (the arch of replacement teeth) may not. We encourage you to check with your insurance provider to determine your coverage limits before scheduling surgery. We also accept most major credit cards and CareCredit, a low or no-interest financing option for medical and dental care.
